Biography

Embossed Lily-of-the-Valley designs cover the body surface forming a frame for the Tea Leaf motifs. This is undoubtedly one of Shaw's most beloved styles. Some accessory pieces, especially parts of chamber sets, are found with copper lustre bands but no motifs.

Body Style: Hanging Leaves

Biography

Hanging Leaves is an embossed body style depicting leaves at the base of vertical ridges which divide the holloware pieces into four sections. Tea service pieces are gently flared to a low bulbous waist, then indent sharply to the shaped base.

Body Style: Many Panelled Gothic

Biography

Anthony Shaw made this variation of the usually octagonal Gothic body style. The adult sugar bowl has a shaped base and eared handles. Some pieces have a very stylized tea leaf. The children's teapot has a large ringed handle and the child's creamer has a familiar C-shaped handle. The child's sugar bowl has eared handles like the adult version.

Pieces may be 12 sided or less, and varies, but always panelled or sided as you would expect for this body style!

Body Style: Dimpled Round

Biography

The bodies are "dimpled." Items such as the chamberpot and soap dishes are dimpled on from two to four sides. Sometimes the dimpling extends right through the tea leaves!

Biography

This square body style is found in two versions: one is slightly bulbous while the other is quite flared. Both styles are characterized by leonine facial features in a medallion at handle corners and in the arch finial.

Body Style: Fleur-de-lys

Biography

This body style features pleated corners on lids of holloware pieces such as covered vegetables which are repeated on the body and on the foot. Vertical handles on covered vegetables are an interesting twist to what is often seen. It is named Fleur-de-lys to acknowledge the embossing at the finial, reminiscent of French chilvaric emblems; this the French spelling of this royal symbol. Registered in 1891.
