Biography

The Ionic body style features deep ribbing or grooves on the top part of the accessory pieces while the bottom half of these pieces are quite bulbous. The moss rose motiff with gold lustre were applied.

Body Style: Tacoma

Biography

Tacoma was the name given to the Tea Leaf pieces - one of the five body styles of ironstone produced by Knowles, Taylor and Knowles. It has an oval or round footprint and an elyptical finial. Arched embossing is present on the sides of the ware.

Body Style: Rosetta

Biography

The Johnson Brothes became the proprietors of the J. W. Pankhurst potter works at Hanley in 1883. Thus, the same body styles may be found with either a late Pankhurst mark or the Johnson Brothers' arms mark.

Rosetta is a bulbous round body style with simple lines. The rosette embossing on the handles of hollowware pieces is characteristic of Johnson Brothers. It is also found on some Wedgwood products which are similarly styled. On Pankhurst hollowware pieces the finials may be mushroom shaped.

Body Style: Turin

Biography

This is believed to be the body style name that Ford China company, of Ford City, Pennsylvania, marked its tea leaf wares with.  The body style is a fancy shape with a low waist, ear shaped handles that connect at the top of the neck and at the middle of the waist.  It includes an impressed medley of flowers and leaves.  The spout on pitchers is slightly elongated and the rim is heavily scalloped.

Biography

This late Corn body style sports faintly fluted corners on a body that is slighly bulbous. The embossing at the handle terminals resembles the flora of a forest floor. The twisted rope handle completes the rustic design.

Biography

This is a beautiful pattern with thumbprint impressions surrounding the base of pieces and arched panels along the sides with embossed spriggs of wheat flaring upwards and out. Copper lustre or polychrome with copper lustre highlights the wheat shafts and other embossed elements on these pieces.

Body Style: Plain Uplift

Biography

This late 19th century design was used by many potters of that era. Notable are the Tea Leaf designs by Anthony Shaw and the Teaberry motif examples by Clementson Brothers. Both examples have knob finials The Plain Uplift body style has simple lines and the uplifted handles attached to the body. Sometimes the handles are adorned with a decoration similar to beaded band.
