Description:

Crystal is a very plain bulbous style potted by two famous producers of Tea Leaf ironstone. The only difference in the teapots is the rim style. Clementson used a flanged simple rim while Elsmore & Forster scalloped their flanged rim. Elsmore & Forster uses a heavily lustred knob finial.

The basic body shape is similar to the Plain Uplift pieces potted by many companies in the 1870's and 1880's. Elsmore & Forster's version is usually found with a six-leafed Pepper Leaf motif but there are examples with only five leaves. Clementson Brothers used Teaberry and other motifs. A pitcher by Clementson is on display at Har-Ber Village in Grove, Oklahoma.

Note that on Elsmore & Forster pieces the word "Crystal" is often found impressed as a backstanp. The mark of this potter-named body style does not include the word "Shape."
